The Business

Meet’n’Greet: Amara

Amara Karan

Today, this sweet actress came in our office. We talked about her new movie being released tomorrow, Wes Andersons Darjeeling Limited which was co-written by Wes and Roman Coppola. The film also stars Jason Schwartzman and Owen Wilson. I asked her how she managed to get into such a cool film as a newbie, and she straight-up said she got sent to general casting and just made it through all the call-backs. Lucky girl. In her next film, St. Trinian she plays someone called Peaches who’s in a school of “ungovernable” girls……and so a new career is launched!

We gave her the “Starworks Word Association game”. Here’s how she fared.

Milan Intern search

Interviews…

INTERVIEW

Starworks Milan is looking for an intern for our office. The last few months has been swarming with a wide range of quite “interesting” people who have been interviewed creating an atmosphere of psychological stress. We were not surprised that a lot of “original” candidates have showed up, pushing with their elbows through the cue outside the office, ready to work with us, considering that this is definitely the coolest agency in the fashion system…(!)

I think it would be still fun to share a couple of those characters with you:

Giulia was still outside my office. Despite the distance I could perfectly smell strawberry gum, but she wasn’t chewing, it was her uber-sweet perfume. She came in swinging her jingling arms overall-covered with multicolour bracelets. Moving right and left her curves and showing off her shapes wrapped in a super tight, flower-patterned short dress, trying to balance on those electric blue patent leather stilettos she was wearing. On top she wore a sort of “straight out of the runway” waistcoat made out of long, smooth, fake black fur.
After my ten minute introduction on the Agency and on our needs, all she was able to answer was: “…yes….yes…but how am I supposed to express myself in here?…”. Subsequently she dared to ask: “Eventually….. how much do I get to travel?”

A few days later

Giovanni arrived in my office. We started talking. He seemed to be a very very cool guy, the kind of person I had been looking for. Everything seemed fine and smooth. Quickly the atmosphere got more and more relaxed and in a while he got to me with a long series of juicy gossips and truly quite unbelievable stories on his company and on “his boss”… actually something I didn’t ask for…(!)
Just at the end, acting very proud of his unfair speech, all he could say was: “Maybe it would be better to keep this between the two of us… I don’t think Donatella would appreciate”

Argh!

Greeting from NYC

Hello. Welcome to our baby blog.

Currently, we are knocking walls down in our Soho loft, and growing bigger and bigger. We’re opening new global offices in addition to London, LA, and Milan too. All good stuff. There’s lots of cool projects Starworks is involved with regarding designers, magazines, and fashion brands which we’ll be covering here. Of course we’ll also be dropping knowledge and random thoughts that inspire us around the city.

Stick around.
