hi.DEFF hosts fashion mixer in Soho

Last Wednesday night, editors, PRs, emerging designers and tastemakers alike joined for a night of revelry at The Yard at the SoHo Grand. The common factor that brought the fashionable flock together? hi.DEFF: a vaguely mysterious, members-only club, whose mission is to fuse together the “new guard” of fashion professionals.

Curious? We thought so.

Founded by friends Justine Harman (an assistant editor at People.com and PeopleStyleWatch.com), Lindsay Niggeman (an account manager at WIRED) and Lizzie Rosenberg (an associate merchant at J.Crew),  hi.DEFF was born when they cobbled a list of the contacts with whom they work, but rarely converge, within their own corner of the industry- genius! Their first tête-à-tête, a gathering at the Jane in late March, brought out the likes of stylist Annabel Tollman, Wall Street Journal’s Rachel Dodes, WWD’s Rachel Strugatz and Leandra “The Man Repeller” Medine.

The second installment or shall we say, fashion mixer, was accompanied by potent rum punch, handmade leather friendship bracelets and Timo Weiland designer Alan Eckstein’s bumping beats. With a laid-back arena, guests including Teen Vogue’s Mary-Kate Steinmiller, Gilt’s Melissa Liebling-Goldberg and CFDA’s Johanna Stout were able to connect without an agenda.

Vinny Z. partied like a rock star in Vegas for his cousin’s 40th!

Simone D. made a delicious meal with her farmshare goodies- fresh linguine with shrimp, cherry tomatoes, bacon, wild mushrooms and fresh basil with parmesan eggplant bites on the side.  YUM.

Suzanne S. went out to Long Beach Island with her pals to celebrate her birthday! Looks like she had a great time!

7 Questions…

If you’ve passed by an arm party on the streets of New York City, chances are you have seen Leandra Medine or one of her Man Repelling protégés. We’ve asked The Man Repeller herself to answer this week’s 7 Questions. Watch out, Kate Middleton.

1. What is the first thing you do every morning?
Brush my teeth, make a coffee, drink it, blog, drink more. Tweet.

2. Every man repeller must have ______ in her wardrobe.
Something high waisted.

3. If you had to describe yourself(ves) in one word, what would it be?
Nutty.

4. What are the first 5 songs on your iTunes shuffle?
Otis by Kanye x Jay Z, Postcards from Italy by Florence + The Machine, Do It Again by Holy Ghost!, Kids by Vampire Weekend and that song Party Rockers…oh yeah, I went there.

5. What is your favorite thing about living in New York City?
Quicker turnover than the internet! Things become irrelevant fast, teaches us to stay on our toes.

6. If you could give one celebrity a Man r\Repeller makeover, who would it be and how would you dress them?
I would love to get my hands on Kate Middleton. She’s got such a beautiful figure, I’d love to hide it!

7. What is one of the biggest goals you have not accomplished yet?
Partnering with Opening Ceremony in a really unique, interesting and huge capacity. Come on, we go together like PB + J.

Wish you were here…

We’ve all been squeezing in last minute vacations before the summer sun sets and Fashion Week speeds up. Most recently, Brittany M. and Aiden A. took a few days to recharge.

Brittany M. was home in Wrightsville Beach – Wilmington, NC where she indulged on sweet tea and hush puppies.

Aiden A. spent her holiday in Kennebunkport, Maine. “The water pics are from our Whale Watching trip. We saw seals, sharks and about 6 whales! The house in the other pic is actually called “The Wedding Cake House”. Someone actually built this house as their home….”
