The Business

Costello Tagliapietra

KNOCK-OUT SHOW.

Costello1
The Starworks army emerged hours before the showtime to line up seating, goodiebags, guest lists, etc for one of our designers, Costello Tagliapietra. I was summoned to DJ the show tunes again. Their musical motivation was dreamy and trippy. I really like these guys taste in music and we had fun working together. Altogether, I’d say this was one of the sweetest vibes I experienced all fashion week, not to mention the clothes was lavish, elegant and perfectly tailored to a woman.

The show was held in the breathtaking Prince George Ballroom. The caretaker of the old NYC hotel had explained to me that one of his banquet halls, called “The Tea Room”, was a euphamism back in the days for when women got their party on (minus the men). Today, the Tea Room was used for hair&makeup for the models. Here was the spirit backstage…

Paul Haggis + Accompanied

Tonight was all about a good cause.
Beast of Burden

This is Brooke. I’ve been hearing her speak for years about her dream— to build a cool literary society in New York City where young people can mingle, share work, have artist residencies, and overall have a forum to talk books. Her first library was located in the The National Arts Club on Gramercy Park and her parties have always been off the hooks. Here she is visiting me in my DJ booth. Ball of sunshine.
BrookeGeahan

Tonight, she decided to get her friend Paul Haggis (Director of Crash) to throw a benefit this Fashion week. The event was called “Art in a Time of Crisis” and the purpose was to raise funds to build a new cultural center in downtown Manhattan. His new movie “In the Valley of Elah” was screening to a few VIP’s and then the swanky dinner/party/auction began… together they raised $100,000. Yay!

My Saturday for Fashion Week

I kept it pretty mellow this Saturday.
Spent the afternoon visiting and hanging out around Benjamin Cho’s show. True artist.

ben cho runway

The crowd clustered into a tiny tent. Ran into cool local buds, artist Andre Razo and filmmaker Brody Baker. At first we laughed how at odd the show was sponsored by Budweiser. Then we were happy about it because there were ice cold buds passed out to kill time before the show. Woohoo.

beatrice inn

I swung through Beatrice Inn for some serious Tequila action and to say happy birthday to Moby.

max fish

Ended with a nightcap at Max Fish. Was a bit Fashion week’d out by this time so I sought cool local dive bar. Of course there were some diehard new yorkers artists/musicians here too. Thank god for the “the fish” jukebox!

Mark Seliger curates…

THEY DO MORE THAN PLAY MUSIC.

This weekend, I visited the Mark Seliger gallery called 401 Projects. It was founded by Mr Rolling Stone himself (and now Vanity Fair photographer), Mark Seliger. More importantly, the gallery is huge supporter of Food Bank New York. They have a massive network feeding all the 5 boroughs. So I figured it’d be worth checking out this new collection of pics taken by musicians.

I sorta cheated and took tight shots at this gallery show so nooooo, I did not take these photos. If you want to purchase prints to any of these, each has a corresponding contact.

Sue Stemp Fashion Show

SUE STEMP ROCKS IT.

sue stemp(lo)opening dress(lo)

Last night, the entire Starworks staff came to Sue Stemps show and were all assigned some sort of task from seating to guest list to cueing models to walk. I was assigned the lovely task of spinning the show tunes. The venue was lovely. Alfresco in the Maritime Cabana’s. These pics of course are my view from the DJ booth.

Before we knew it, the venue got packed. Several cool folks showed up to represent! It was time to play a Sue set full of rock’n'roll love while the crowd settled — Bowie, Zeppelin, Rapture, Clash, etc.
