The Business

One Starworker, Five Looks!

We are so excited for our much anticipated feature on Starworks Group Partner, Sharon Ainsberg! Well-connected (she knows EVERYONE!) and well-dressed, Sharon’s style inspirations come from Stella Tennant, Lou Doillon, and Isabel Marant. For more inside peeks into Ms. Ainsberg’s amazing wardrobe, take a look at her feature on The Coveteur, one of Starworks Group’s favorite style sites.

Day One

What are you wearing?
A Jasmine de Milo white silk tux jacket, vintage denim skirt, Elizabeth & James tank top and Chloe ankle strap shoes.

Any special stories related to anything you have on today?
The jacket was a gift from Jasmine – it’s one of my favorite pieces in my wardrobe because I can dress it up or down.

What is your favorite thing about this outfit?
The violet Chloe shoes are an unexpected splash of color and are so sexy without being too high (so they are comfortable too!).

How does this outfit work for your work day?
The denim mini is casual but the jacket still gives the look a very chic and professional flair.

Day Two

What are you wearing?
Isabel Marant jacket and pants, Chanel flats and American Apparel tank. Vintage brass necklace.

Any special stories related to anything you have on today?
I found this amazing necklace at Daha Vintage on Orchard Street. It has a rose gold cast on it and is a very unusual piece from the 70’s. I’ve never seen anything like it!

What is your favorite thing about this outfit?
I’m obsessed with this little jacket. It ‘s a great layering piece and is so easy, super light and comfortable.

How does this outfit work for your work day?
I’ll be spending a lot of time on conference calls today so if I’m sitting a lot, I want everything to be very cozy. The pants are inspired by sweatpants but have great tailoring to them, so they work perfectly for the office.

Day Three

What are you wearing?
Vintage polka dot tiered dress, Temperley London studded belt, Thakoon for Manolo Blahnik yellow corset shoes.

Any special stories related to anything you have on today?
I had a meeting just this morning with a notable fashion designer. She loved this vintage dress I’m wearing and was quite inspired by it! So I may loan it to her design team to play around with. Who knows, maybe we’ll see something like it in one of her upcoming collections! I found it at Narnia on Rivington Street years ago. I think it was around $60.

What is your favorite thing about this outfit?
The dress is very feminine and flirty but I like toughening it up with the studded belt and the corseted shoes, giving it a bit of a punch of attitude and color. The shoes tend to inspire lots of comments similar to Carrie Bradshaw’s famous line in Sex and the City: “Excuse me but WHAT is going on south of your ankles?”

How does this outfit work for your work day?
I had an important meeting and fitting with a designer and actress this morning and I felt it was important to show up looking “dressed” for the meeting. I also have another meeting after work. This is a good look for meetings I think…both professional and fashion forward.

Day Four

What are you wearing?
Vintage jumpsuit, Temperley London brass lion belt, Burberry Prorsum platform sandals.

Any special stories related to anything you have on today?
The shoes I found the first year of Fashion’s Night Out…I went crazy when I saw them and had to have them. Fortunately, I used to work with Burberry for many years so they were kind enough to extend a discount!

What is your favorite thing about this outfit?
Despite the insane height, these shoes are incredibly comfortable. They have a very rugged sole and lots of support! They sort of make any outfit look rather kick-ass.

How does this outfit work for your work day?
Perfectly…the jumpsuit is a wonderfully light and easy fabric so I am always comfortable in it. The shoes dress it up a bit and the belt finishes it off with a bit of a fun conversation piece.

Day Five

What are you wearing?
Rogan top layered over a Martin tank, Proenza Schouler skirt, Alyson Fox necklace, Isabel Marant ankle boots, Stella McCartney sunglasses and Marc Jacobs bag.

Any special stories related to anything you have on today?
I am obsessed with Rogan…easiest, most versatile clothing. The store is a block from my house so it’s a big addiction for me! The skirt was a great Proenza Schouler Sample Sale find! It was the last one, was two sizes too big, so I had my friend Lars Nord, who is an expert tailor, fit it for me. The boots go with everything and I love how easily they can be worn in the summer with skirts and dresses.

What is your favorite thing about this outfit?
My comfort level is at its peak!

How does this outfit work for your work day?
Today is a more casual day with a few low-key meetings, so this look feels easygoing and effortless.

At 1:30, I am…

Sydney Oh
Fashion PR, New York

…heading to Montauk for a weekend with Alternative Apparel! So pumped for activities like yoga, paddle boarding, spa treatments, biking, karaoke, DIY projects and much-needed relaxation.

Lindsey Jacobs
VIP Services, Los Angeles (almost New York!)

…moving to New York! Two HUGE suitcases and 17 pairs of shoes later I feel like the typical twentysomething year old moving from the hills to the city. As Carrie Bradshaw once said, ” Girls move to New York in search for the two L’s.”  I, like Carrie, have discovered my love for labels at an early age working at the Starworks LA office- the other L, to be continued….

Liana Graves
Fashion PR, London

… desperately trying to get everything done before I go away to Ibiza on Monday, woo hoo! First point of call after getting home is  to go for a run, I need to get this body bikini fit in exactly 4 days (mental note to start earlier next year!). Half an hour later and following a series of heart palpitations it’s time to pack- does simply throwing anything remotely summer-y into a case count? Let the countdown begin, two days and I’ll be off on that plane with two girlfriends for a serious weekend of fun. Adios Starworks Family, until the 16th, I’ll send you a postcard.

One Starworker, Five Looks!

This week, we snapped Katie “Boom Boom” Rudik’s workday looks. She is constantly changing it up with different hair styles and color, bold nails and her uncanny ability to live in NYC and not carry a handbag. Gotta love it!

Day 1

What are you wearing?
Employing high, low & priceless here with DVF wedges, H&M jumpsuit, & thrift store find vest.

Any special stories related to anything you have on today?
The pink coral was a lovely gift from grandma and about as bright as I’ll go for a pop of color. Plus it matches those ridiculous nails, which may be my favorite accessory of all.

What is your favorite thing about this outfit?
See above! But really the shoes, the newest addition to my ever-growing collection.

How does this outfit work for your work day?
I took a cue from Sydney who also rocked a one piece during her 5 look work week. With all the running around we do, it’s so important to be able to move so it’s practical! The paisley print keeps the look summery and accessories tie it all together.

Day 2

What are you wearing?
Jeans by Paper Denim & Cloth, Tse tank, ASOS shoes, and while you can’t tell- pigtail braid a la Givenchy Spring 2011 runway  ; )

Any special stories related to anything you have on today?
This necklace is a beautiful gift from a friend who brought it all the way back with him from a trip to Armenia. It’s always nice for jewelry to tell a story and this piece has been places I may never get to go.

What is your favorite thing about this outfit?
I may wax poetic about the necklace but no one will be surprised to hear it’s the sky-high heels. I’ll go as high as I can walk in.

How does this outfit work for your work day?
It’s nice to be able to wear denim to work and pairing it with a matching black top and shoes keeps it simple and sleek without looking too young.

Day 3

What are you wearing?
A lot of distressed denim, apparently. The button-down shirt is Narciso Rodriguez, the sensible flats are Badgley Mischka and these shorts were probably ten bucks from a bin that said “ten bucks”.

Any special stories related to anything you have on today?
I’ve been trying not to divulge my shopping secrets but it’s slowly coming out… our very own neighboring streets are a goldmine for hit and run buys.  I’ve turned so many people on to these stores we wouldn’t even think to look twice at for inexpensive pieces that can be perfect to last a season and then be tossed.

What is your favorite thing about this outfit?
I love the gold details on the shoes- it gave me an excuse to experiment with some gold jewelry which I don’t normally wear and borrow mama’s very nice watch for the occasion.

How does this outfit work for your work day?
I like that this look is a bit business on top, party on bottom. Which works for looking professional behind a desk or in meetings with clients and then still being able to jet for some after-work plans without an outfit change.

Day 4

What are you wearing?
Alternative Apparel tee, Aldo shoes, undisclosed neighboring store skirt, Prada over-shirt and Dsquared2 eyewear- Starworks repping!

Any special stories related to anything you have on today?
I’ve become obsessed with Alternative Apparel basics. They’re so comfortable and when your color palette only consist of blacks, whites and muted, dusty colors, like mine is- you can at least work with their different cuts.

Also want to spotlight my mess of rings which I wear every single day. There are diamonds in there from a 16th birthday present, a hammered silver ring from Israel, the pearl passed down from my great grandmother, that amazing cage ring which was given to my mother as a wedding gift when she was my age.  All my favorite pieces, especially worn together.

What is your favorite thing about this outfit?
This skirt has pockets!

How does this outfit work for your work day?
Layering is a good idea because between an NYC heat wave and 4 air conditioners on blast, I’m always throwing sweaters on, taking blazers off and the light over-shirt is a nice in between.

Day 5

What are you wearing?
American Apparel tube dress under this amazing All Saints piece. The shoes are from Aldo and a single feather earring from Evolution.

Any special stories related to anything you have on today?
This All Saints dress came from a recent sample sale right around here- another perk of the neighborhood. In fact, I did some damage at Alexander Wang sample sale today, can we do a look 6 tomorrow? Alexander Wang head to toe. (Editor’s Note- we couldn’t resist…see Katie’s Look 6 here!)

What is your favorite thing about this outfit?
That it somehow is okay to wear boots in the summer and that instead of carrying around a bag I can slip my keys and cash in there.

How does this outfit work for your work day?
Everything is about making sure not to feel constricted when you’re at work so the flowiness of this is what makes it ideal for work.

Roxy Surf Camp 2011

It is quite the culture shock coming back to New York City after a weekend at Roxy Surf Camp. To celebrate summer and the brand’s surf spirit, we traveled to Montauk, NY with some of our favorite editors for a relaxing and energy filled weekend. After arriving at The Surf Lodge, we enjoyed a delicious seafood dinner and headed off to rest up for day 1 of camp.

We were so lucky to have Rosy Hodge, a Roxy pro surfer, join Montauk’s own Air & Speed to teach this year’s surf camp. After practicing our skills in the sand, we took our boards into the chilly ocean. Everyone was able to catch a few waves! You would have never known that we were all first timers. Of course, the fun didn’t stop at Ditch Plains. We enjoyed a performance by The Growlers and ate marshmallows by the bonfire late into the night.

With the help of Neutrogena, the whole gang woke up for day 2 with glowing skin. As a part of the Choose Skin Health campaign, we all learned to apply SPF early and reapply throughout the day. We took our boards out for just a few more hours before celebrating the end of a great weekend with a brunch back at The Surf Lodge.

Wish you were here…

Last week, Bea flew out to her native hometown of San Juan, Puerto Rico as a surprise for her entire family. “I spent the week paddle boarding, laying out on the beach and indulging in some of my favorite home cooked meals including arroz con pollo. It was a bittersweet goodbye, but I couldn’t have asked for a better week.”
