The Business

Summer Lovin’

We’re loving the laid-back vibe in today’s short film on Nowness.com and especially the Tucker by Gaby Basora outfits worn by models Liberty Ross and Annie Morton!

The two glam ladies are holed up in a Palm Springs bungalow for a retro-glam romp with actor Donovan Leitch. Directed by Happy Massee and set to Charlotte Gainsbourg and Beck’s “Heaven Can Wait,” the film was shot at Tucker designer Gaby Basora’s grandmother’s home and references the 60s Hollywood spirit of Steve McQueen and Marilyn Monroe. “Everything from the house to the clothes to the perfect weather just created this vibe,” Massee says of the nostalgic aesthetic.

New York-based Basora began designing in 2005 in a bid to add a little punch to her own closet and quickly found a cult following; the summer 2011 collection includes free-flowing maxi-dresses and jumpsuits, as well as the brand’s trademark blouses and rompers, all finished in signature bold prints. This spring, Basora will open a flagship in the West Village while continuing to set her sights on screen. “My mom had an art house movie theater when I was growing up in Seattle, and in lieu of a babysitter, we’d just sit there and watch whatever was playing, over and over again, until it was time to go. So I have this long relationship with film,” she says.

By Georgia!

Model of the moment Georgia May Jagger will be at London department store Selfridges on Thursday 10th March (that’s this Thursday folks) to launch the Hudson by Georgia May Jagger collection from 5-6pm. The genetically-blessed rock chick will be greeting fans, signing merchandise and, of course, demonstrating just how good the denims she has designed can look. Get in line!

Backstage Beauty: Marios Schwab AW11

The hair at Marios Schwab’s triumphant AW11 show was truly the crowning glory. Paul Hanlon (who recently styled the hair for LOVE magazine’s cover featuring Kate Moss and Lea T) crafted the model’s locks into ultra- slick, shiny ‘bows’. The seemingly effortless creations were kept prisitine pre-show with super-cute, colourful scarves, which looked so good that we a bit disappointed when they were removed! The end result, though, was as sophisticated and sculptural as Marios’ collection.

Hello Tailor

Ozwald Boateng being interviewed by the BBC on the red carpet

To celebrate 25th years in menswear the iconic Savile Row tailor Ozwald Boateng closed London Fashion Week with a spectacular show held in the Odeon Leicester Square on Wednesday 22nd September.

Globally renowned for melding traditional tailoring techniques with sharp cuts and a very modern use of colour, Boateng has dressed an incredible array of A-list talent (David Bowie, Mick Jagger, Robbie Williams, Daniel Day Lewis, Jamie Foxx to name but a few) and, even, the world’s most powerful man Barack Obama.  The red carpet event in Leicester Square was attended by over 1,000 guests including VIPs, captains of industry and key members of the style press.

Boateng also used the opportunity to exclusively preview the documentary film ‘A Man’s Story’, which candidly charts his business and personal life throughout the late nineties and the noughties. Filmed over the space of 12 years, it provides a unique insight into how the most talked about tailor on Savile Row has become a global luxury menswear brand.

The groundbreaking fashion show featured over 100 models wearing pieces from both the A/W 2010 and S/S 2011 collections. To further add to the cinematic feel of the evening, the event featured surround sound and a unique fragrance by Roja Dove was piped into the auditorium, immersing viewers in an unforgettable 4-dimensional experience. The models then left the cinema and walked in a procession back to Savile Row, lead by Sam Branson.
