The Business

April Fools stinks

Last week we posted that Wowch was going out of business (Post here). The smart-asses played an April Fool’s joke on all of us. False Alarm.

I am part pissed off that I mis-posted that fact, but part happy they are not closing.
Here’s another psycho feline graphic for your viewing pleasure.

Vegan Alert!

For all the Vegans!
babycakes
(Greg’s Desk. Bday Cupcakes)

Greg is the strict vegan here in the office. Starworks has a ritualistic birthday “moment” for all the staffers complete with sweets & song (whether we like it or not). It’s the one time we all drop our phone calls, leave our desks, and chill out. Anyway, trusty co-worker Brittany found this insanely cool spot to buy Greg’s cupcakes. I’m the girl who denies herself nothing in the buttercream/flour/sugar department — so I was pretty shocked these cupcakes had NONE of these ingredients! They passed my “Sweets Radar” with flying colors.

Babycakes avoids the usual allergens (of “delicate tummies”) — no wheat, gluten, dairy, casein, and eggs. Their secret is a sweetener called “agave nectar” (a natural syrup from a cactus which is low on the glycemia index and often a safe alternative to most non-insulin dependant diabetics).

Oh…and the uniforms are designed by Wendy Mullin, a queen poker player, and of course clothing designer for her line, Built by Wendy. Her own shop is located a few blocks away.

If you are in the city, Babycakes takes orders within 48 hours of your fiesta at 212.677.5047 or go to their website Babycakes for more details.

Bjork

bjork3

Bjork has always been reliable with introducing us to new talent. Her latest video for a track called “Wanderlust” poaches into the imaginations of 2 young guns, Isaiah Saxon and Sean Hellfritsch. The sweet fellows admit to dropping ‘shrooms and journeying into nature to create from a place of “artistic psychosis” (NY Times Interview Here). The co-director then stops himself from explaining the process, and calmly exhales with a smile… “it doesn’t translate into language”.

bjork1

Bjork and the boys spent 9 months creating this. The puppets were all conceived and constructed in Matthew Barney’s studio. When all the money ran out, they all kept working ’round the clock. The completion of this video was truly a passion project for all involved.

The video was shot in stereoscopic 3-D. The narrative drops Bjork into some other dimension on a journey to confront her shadow and meet her maker. The rest, like any good art piece, is open to personal interpretation. Watch the “Wanderlust” video in 2D here.
